Damson plums are small, round to oblong in shape and have smooth, shiny, deep purple to black skin with ovate to elliptic green leaves. The firm amber flesh is very tasty with a spicy, tart flavor.
 
The main difference between damsons and plums is actually more to do with the shape than the taste. Damsons are smaller than plums and don't have the distinct longitudinal groove that plums typically have.
 
Great for jam-making but also good for eating if you like a tart fruit. If you don't have time now then freeze for later jam making....
